Taking our community-to-community model to Mali, West Africa
Women all over the world face discrimination in some form or the other. With the objective to learn new strategies of empowering women, a team from Malian NGO Camide visited Dholpur in 2016 to learn about Manjari Foundation’s model for empowerment through women-led institutions. Following the visit, Manjari Foundation joined hands with Camide to take its model to West Africa.
The Intervention
Camide, Mali is one of the least developed countries in West Africa and the situation of women far from favourable. The collaboration between Camide, Mali and Manjari foundation seeks to empower women by mobilising them into the SHGs, VOs & federations and build their capacities to improve their economic & social status.
A CRP-led strategy
Over the years, we have seen that community-to-community cross learning is the best way to facilitate social mobilisation. Hence, Manjari Foundation used the same Community Resource Person led strategy in which experienced women leaders were identified from our project locations and sent to Mali to lead this initiative. Manjari Foundation’s CRP strategy and training materials have by and large been successfully replicated as is-so in the West African context.
Achievements
As of March 2018, a total of 50 SHGs comprising of 664 women & 4 Village Organisations have been formed. Majority of them have already begun internal saving and lending.
