Water solution for Drinking and Domestic use for both Human and Cattle

Drinking Water Context and reality

A safe and clean water supply is the backbone of a healthy nation, yet it is highly underprioritized all over the World. To prioritize access to clean water and sanitation, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDG) put it into goal 6 that is intended to be achieved by 2030. But villages like Ruppura, and Ganpat Khera were still waiting for getting a access of clean water with tap water connection. In lack of access to tap water connection, they are forced to travel kilometer's to fetch water from the nearby sources.

Changes

The initiative has huge contribution to reducing the drudgery of fetching water, saving 2-3 hours daily, reducing psychological pressure, reducing conflict, etc., and most importantly enhancing the women’s dignity. Now, each household availed clean drinking water on a regular basis at their doorstep, and animals also got clean water whenever they required it. The initiative helped them earn their daily wages which they lost earlier in the excessive time spent in fetching water. There are several other changes which are beyond traditional measurement tools.

Drinking Water initiative

Manjari foundation facilitated the drinking water program which helped marginalized house hold to access clean and safe drinking water. After that a detailed scope of work has been created from the team. Where a detailed survey was conducted based on technical aspects which were included – identification of suitable water source, suitable place for constructing water tank, length of pipe for each household, RO connection, facilities for cattle drinking water etc. Based on survey report and need of water for each household which was calculated based on 60 liters water for each person per day. After that in both villages two water tanks 32 KL in Roopura and 25 KL in Ganpat Khera villages constructed. A technical and feasibility study was done for ensuring the quality and quantity of water. Based on the laboratory report tube wells have been dug in both villages. As per hydrologist report the water level, availability and quality also is good. As we know and understand solar based energy sources are always environmentally sustainable and cost effective as well. Based on this principle we have installed the solar plant of 5HP for both villages. This is helping to reduce electricity and recurring cot for the community.

Women Institution Initiative

Manjari Foundation started a nonprofit organization is working in these villages’ way back in 2016 through the formation of Self-Help Group and federate them in village organization and federation. During one of the village organization women raises the issue of drinking water in their village, which was very pertinent for all members. After listening and knowing the challenge Manjari Foundation team approached the PNB housing ltd. for supporting the villagers to access clean water. In this regard, the organization proposed rupees 2200 per household with the discussion with SHG and other village members in the village organization meeting.

All lives Matter

Based on the principle of all lives matter whether human, animal, and birds as well. Pani Panchayat strongly apply this in their planning and execution of the initiative. They have created six water points  where all animals and birds can access clean water as per their requirement. Management and Sustainability  After several capacity building initiative SHG members formed a Pani Panchayat an institution which will govern the water initiative in the village. This Pani Panchayat consists of 15 members of which 70 percent are women and 30 percent are men. Pani Panchayat played an active role in planning, execution, and monitoring of the project. Now Pani Panchayat is managing all operational things of the initiative, Pani Panchayat started to collect a water tariff from each family, so that in future all maintenance and management things can be manage sustainably. Pani Panchayat is leading for behaviour change aspects as well which is very important post installation management of the water infrastructure, efficient use and adoption of health and hygiene practices as well.

  • Manjari Foundation is IPE Global’s implementation partner in Dholpur, Rajasthan under the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), UK supported Project Udaan that aims at reducing teenage pregnancies. They have been instrumental in successfully piloting interventions for improving the knowledge of adolescents around sexual and reproductive health (SRH) in Bari block of Dholpur. Their efforts in organizing a team to take up the issue of adolescent SRH and facilitating its implementation with great sensitivity across the block has not only been recognized by the district administration, but has also paved way for attempting a scale-up across the district. Their coordination with the community-level institutions, local government bodies and the target group has been noteworthy and exemplary.

  • Without larger vision and dedication of the team of MF and its leadership, both vertical and horizontal growth would have never been possible to pick up at this level in this short history of its evolution. Since I have been associated with the Sakhi project of MF funded by Hindustan Zinc for the last 2 years, the happiness and confidence seen in their faces of hundreds of women in the villages proves its vitality. I have also witnessed the UN-women funded second chance education project (SCE) being implemented in 3 districts under the guidance of PRADAN is a much worthy to reach out to those young women in the age group of 16-35 who have been deprived in their childhood with the education, skills and employment are now happily enrolled and trained to overcome these deprivations with much positive outcome. While writing all these statements, I recall each visit to the project area to witness the change processes that were taking place within those women who had never dreamed of being so empowered and self-reliant so soon in their lifetimes.

  • Our collaboration with Manjari has allowed us to better understand the approach of solidarity groups and concretely towards the empowerment of women in the commune of Logo.The participation of Indian PRCs has been beneficial because the women have appropriated easily by seeing that they are rural women Indian women who share their experiences with them. The Camide team was formed by the professionals of Manjari with enthusiasm and professionalism and is able to reproduce most of the activities. This period of collaboration opens up prospects for our two structures to replicate the model in Mali and Africa. We again thank Manjari for all the efforts made for Camide and particularly the Director Sanjay Kumar. We were able to reach more than 2,500 women and more than 180 million CFA francs of credit granted four test henhouses substantial support for the winter and market gardening campaign in terms of results thank you.

  • Development of Corporate Citizenship (DoCC), the social internship program of SPJIMR has been collaborating with Manjari Foundation since 2015. This has been fruitful relationship for us. I want to emphasise the four following themes. First the internships give our students a different idea of leadership which also gives them a sense of requirements for the future and adds to the ethics of sociological content. The participants acquire a notion of innovation- both social and technical which gives them a systemic view of the society. Such an empirical location gives them both a sense of limits and possibilities of what they can do. Environmental consciousness and gender sensitivity constitute two critical parts of social responsibility as we define it today. The participants of the internship understand what these key concepts mean in everyday sense. Internship at Manjari adds to their imagination in this direction. We value this relationship.
