“A Change Agent”

Background

Ms. Kailashi Prajapat, 25 years old young women is a resident of Bhallon Ka Guda Gram Panchayat, Kurabad panchayat Samiti, Udaipur (Raj). Her ambitious and dreams always encouraged her to move further despite various hurdles and bottlenecks. Kailashi is blessed with a child who studies in second standard. Her husband works as a photographer.

Earlier Situations

Since she could not continue her education after 8th standard due to the poor economic conditions of her family, she managed to upgrade her skill by various vocational courses like beauty parlor and stitching. According to her, it is not worthy until and unless you cannot utilize your skill, she was capable enough to run a beauty parlor, but required a considerable amount to be invested in the parlor, which was the main problem.

The Turning Point

Six months back when Community Resource Person (CRP) entered her village for mobilization of poor women into sustainable Self Help Groups (SHGs); she became a member of “Shri Krishna Mahila” Self Help Group which comprises seventeen members more or less belongs to the same economic background.

Kailashi said that in the regular weekly meeting all members were convinced to accumulate 25 RS.

The Positive Changes:

She was very much impressed with the ideology of Self Help Group that she volunteered to work as bookkeeper of her group.

Her association with Samuh gave her an opportunity to run her beauty parlor as now it is not difficult to get credit or loan like earlier before which was too difficult from the market as well as on higher interest rate.

She took a loan for Rs. 49,500 from her SHG. The loan amount helped her to add new daily needs materials in her petty shop. She started to run a beauty parlor. Now Kailashi is capable to earn Rs 200 per day. She plans to upgrade her shop by the constant support from her SHG.
