Sadhana: A successful Dairy entrepreneur
Tuesday, 06 July 2021
Smt. Sadhana lives in remote village, named Maloni Pawar, 46 Km from Dholpur, Rajasthan. She is also an active member of one of the SHG of her village. Before joining the SHG, her financial condition was not good as her family had to borrow the loan from the moneylender of the village to fulfil the needs of the family or for agriculture purpose, but after joining the SHG, Sadhana took a loan from her SHG and purchased a buffalo as it’s the general practice in the area for ensuring a sustainable livelihood. Then she started selling milk to the local milkman (Dudhiya) on the fixed price Rs. 30/Litre, very less from the market rate, but she had no other options for selling the milk. Once during the federation meeting, she came to know about Dairy-based intervention under HRDP-Parivartan project in their area as well as FPO and its services, then she along with other SHG members visited to a village level milk poring institution (MPI) in a nearby village Saipau, where all the dairy operations were functional and some women were also engaged with some operational activities i.e. making paneer, khoa and packaging etc., and found that milk price was decided on the basis of FAT % and CLR. She was surprised to know that the milk price were more than what she was getting from the milkman.
Then, she organized other SHG women of her village and started a MPI (Naari Shikha Dugdh Utpadak Samiti) and started collecting 185 -200 litters milk from 26 farmers of her village to Apani Saheli Producer Company.
Impacts of her efforts
• Sadhana and other women farmers are getting 5-6 Rupees higher price per litre of milk.
• Sadhana as an entrepreneur is getting MPI running commission Rs. 3000-3500/Month.
• She has successfully repaid her loan from the SHG as well as from the money-lender.
