Kiran Suwalka is a highly accomplished textile professional, creative designer, and social enterprise leader with a strong passion for sustainable textiles, traditional crafts, and women-led livelihood development. A graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai, she combines technical expertise with strategic leadership to build sustainable textile ecosystems that create lasting social impact.
Under her leadership, 9 textile production centres and 4 textile clusters have been successfully established across different regions, producing a diverse range of high-quality textile and handcrafted products. Today, more than 850 women are directly and indirectly connected with these units, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthening rural economies.
Kiran possesses extensive expertise in textile design and craft development, with specialised skills in weaving, batik, tie-and-dye, block printing, patchwork, surface ornamentation, natural dyeing, and other traditional textile techniques. Her work reflects a seamless blend of contemporary design thinking with India's rich craft heritage.
She has also successfully conceptualised and developed two community-owned textile brands, which were later handed over to the women-led community enterprises, enabling them to operate independently and sustainably. Currently, she serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jhulki, Manjari Foundation's flagship textile brand, where she leads brand strategy, product development, production, quality assurance, marketing, and business expansion while representing the organisation's vision in the textile sector.
Driven by innovation, quality, and social impact, Kiran continues to transform traditional craftsmanship into sustainable business opportunities, enabling women artisans to achieve financial independence while preserving India's rich textile heritage.
