Quality Education

Striving To Provide Authentic Learning For All

Overview

India ranks 105th amongst 128 countries in education. Despite the growth in literacy rates – from 64% in 2001 to 74.04% in 2011 as per Census 2011, women lag behind in most indicators of education and employment across the country.

As per Census 2011, Rajasthan had a literacy rate of 66.11%. At 52.12%, Rajasthan’s female literacy rate is the lowest in the country. Rajasthan’s sex ratio is also skewed.

The rural literacy rate of Rajasthan as per Census 2011 was 61.44%. The literacy rate of urban males was 87.91% and that of urban females was 70.73%. The literacy rate of rural males was 76.16% and that of rural females was a mere 45.8%.

Challenges

Despite a lot of progress, there are various challenges in rural areas that are hampering quality education. These challenges are quality infrastructure, classroom facilities, toilets, playgrounds, and even quality teachers. There is also a lack of community participation in education.

In most of the schools, School Management Committees (SMCS) are not functioning as per the guidelines and protocols. The interaction between parents and teachers is also very limited which is impacting education adversely.

Strategic Approach

We have devised multi-pronged strategies to address the critical components of education, so that learning outcomes, access to education, and an enabling environment can be built in among learners and the community.

Our interventions are focussing on a) reintegration of dropout girls in schools through open schooling b) settling up of Scholl infrastructure and learning labs where students are able to read literature and access resources beyond the school set-ups and c) upgradation of school infrastructure.

Second Chance Education

Second Chance Education is a second chance for dropout girls and women who could not access education due to patriarchy, gender-based discrimination, and structured barriers.

The program is helping women to enroll in higher education and ensure access to quality scholastic support so that dropouts can get quality education. We have leveraged the NIOS and RSOS platforms for this. SCE programs also facilitate life skilling, career counseling, and vocational training.

Infrastructure Development

Numerous studies suggest that quality infrastructure improves the retention of children along with teachers in schools. We aim to develop child-friendly schools that children look forward to coming to every day.

Guided by this aim, we strive to develop quality classrooms, playgrounds, and toilets as well as improve access to learning aids for children
