Rural Health Care

Accessible Health Services

Overview & Challenges

India has a limited healthcare infrastructure to cater to the needs of a vast and growing population.

Many studies suggest that there is a dearth need for qualified health workers in villages and urban areas as well.

The lack of proper healthcare facilities puts people at risk of having to travel long distances to access basic services.

Strategic Approach

Manjari Foundation trained active SHG women as 'Jan Sakhis' in 100 villages to survey/ collect information on the health status of women and the community. Jan Sakhis also organizes health camps to create awareness and connect professional doctors with patients in dire need of medical services with the help of cloud-based telemedicine tablets.

Jan Sakhi’s are equipped with a basic kit containing equipment for BP testing, an oximeter, a thermometer, etc. They use smart tablets loaded with health software to carry out tests and update data.

Jan Sakhi: A Health Frontline Friend Of The Community

There is a need for a comprehensive Covid care response starting from awareness-creation to helping people cope with coronavirus infection, all aspects of prevention, care, treatment, and post-Covid recovery as well. To do all these things a dedicated community cadre is required in the community.

Our Jan Sakhi served communities by checking for symptoms in villages, testing oxygen levels, and helping them to isolate in their homes or in local quarantine centers, as well as assisting in hospitalization when required.

Conducting Medical Health Camps

Health Camps

Health camps are organized at regular intervals to meet the general and specific needs of communities. These health camps provide preventive and primary healthcare as well as specialized care for TB patients and mother and child health.

With the objective of creating awareness of hygiene practices among women, adolescent girls, & school children, sanitation drives were held to motivate children to use & maintain sanitation facilities at schools, and inculcate better hygiene practices in their surroundings. Children are also made to understand the importance of hand washing thus reducing the incidence of diseases.

Jan Sakhi Covid Response

In many places, isolation cum care center centers have been opened. There are, however, a lot of challenges impeding the efficient running of these centers. There is a need for trained health workers and adequate infrastructure support as well. In this scenario, Jan Sakhi can play a critical role:

  • Connecting high-risk groups of patients to doctors and hospitals
  • Helping people in home isolation and isolation centers
  • Post Covid recovery support – nutrition etc.
  • Facilitating vaccination – clearing myths, hesitancy, and reluctancy

Ensuring Last Mile Health Delivery Through Telemedicine

Most villages now have internet facilities with reasonable speeds. In this digital era, telemedicine can play a critical role. The government has advised and given orders to all Gram Panchayats for creating isolation centers in their respective panchayats. Our interventions are helping to:

  • Support the running of isolation centers as per government design and protocols
  • Support to MGNREGA workers etc. at work sites
  • Help in vaccination drives for children, mothers, and the general public
  • Listing of pregnant women and lactating mothers
  • Listing of malnutrition children and severe chronicle diseases patients

What People Say About Us

'Manjari’ literally translates to “seed of Tulsi”, a sacred Indian plant. When women mobilise themselves to form institutions, they are empowered to sow their own ‘seeds of change’.
